Lead an award-winning charity with purpose, pace and integrity.
Thank you for your interest in our opportunity to become the next Chief Executive of Brunelcare.
A message from our Chair
Dear Candidate,
Thank you for your interest in becoming Brunelcare’s next Chief Executive.
For 85 years, Brunelcare has helped people to live well, providing homes, care and support to generations across Bristol and the surrounding area. That heritage reflects a charity that has adapted to changing needs while remaining rooted in its purpose and local communities. It is a privilege to serve as Chair, and an exciting time to help shape our next chapter.
Founded in Bristol in 1941, Brunelcare now supports more than 2,000 people across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Somerset, with around 1,100 colleagues delivering sheltered and extra care housing, retirement living, care homes, reablement and care in people’s own homes. This breadth is one of our greatest strengths: the opportunity to connect people’s homes, wellbeing, independence and care, helping them live well and stay connected to their communities.
Our vision, “Later living that makes the most of every moment”, is at the heart of our 2024–2030 strategy. Our priorities are clear: a place to call home, the right care and support, and a good quality of life in the community. We are investing in our homes through our Asset Management Strategy, progressing our Care Home Futures project and strengthening the voice of residents, customers and families so they can shape and influence the decisions that affect them.
Our next Chief Executive will turn those ambitions into lasting results, ensuring excellent, safe services today while building a sustainable organisation for the future. There is real scope to shape what comes next: improving homes and services, making better use of technology, developing partnerships and identifying opportunities for sustainable growth. As a charity, every surplus goes back into our work. Growth or change must never be an end in itself: the test is whether it strengthens Brunelcare and delivers better outcomes for the people and communities we serve.
We operate in a complex and evolving environment. Funding constraints, rising costs, workforce pressures, housing investment needs and increasing regulatory expectations demand clear priorities, sound commercial judgement and thoughtful decisions. At the same time, changing expectations and the needs of an ageing population create opportunities to innovate and collaborate. We want a leader who sees these realities clearly, makes difficult choices when needed and brings people together around a confident, achievable direction.
Above all, we are looking for someone who connects personally with our purpose and values: a visible, approachable leader who combines strategic ambition with sound judgement and a genuine interest in people. Someone who listens to residents, customers, families and colleagues; supports and develops our people; engages partners and stakeholders; and follows through on commitments. Quality, safety, financial sustainability and the outcomes people experience must remain central to every decision.
We welcome different perspectives and experiences, fresh thinking and a willingness to listen and learn as well as lead. What matters is that you share our purpose and can turn ambition into practical improvements for the people we serve.
After 85 years, Brunelcare has a proud history on which to build. If the combination of heritage, purpose, challenge and opportunity appeals to you, I hope you will consider helping us shape our next chapter. I look forward to meeting you through the recruitment process.
Bruce Moore, Chair of Brunelcare
