About Brunelcare

An award-winning charity, providing high-quality care, support and housing in the South West.

Later living that makes the most of every moment

About Brunelcare
Brunelcare began in October 1941, in the middle of the Bristol Blitz, as the Old People’s Welfare Committee. Our purpose then was simple and urgent: to keep the city’s older people warm, fed and safe through the war. Eighty-five years on, that founding spirit still shapes everything we do. We now provide housing, care and support to more than 2,000 people across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Somerset.

Housing and care, together
We bring housing and care together under one roof. Our housing ranges from sheltered and retirement living to extra care, shared ownership and leasehold homes. Our care services include six care homes offering nursing, dementia and palliative care, alongside home care, respite and specialist reablement that helps people regain their independence after a stay in hospital. People can therefore stay with us as their needs change, with support that adapts to them rather than the other way round.

A history of innovation
Innovation has been part of our story throughout. We helped pioneer new approaches to dementia care in the 1990s. In 2015 we opened Bristol’s first dedicated short-stay reablement centre. More recently we have invested in purpose-built settings such as Saffron Gardens and Little Heath. Our services are regularly recognised for quality, most recently with Gold Standards Framework accreditation for end-of-life care across our care homes.

Our vision

Later living that makes the most of every moment.

Our mission

To provide person-centred care, housing, support and community living for later life. To do this, we will embrace new partnerships and engage with our communities to achieve better outcomes for all.

Our Values

We are caring and kind

We care about every interaction: with our customers and their loved ones, our colleagues and our partners, our communities and our planet.

We act with honesty and integrity

We do the right thing, we speak up, we are honest and we are respectful.

We are positive and passionate

We approach our work with positivity: as individuals, as teams, and as one organisation. We are passionate about what we do and who we do it for.

We are diverse and one team

We are one team and we see our diversity as our strength. We aim to celebrate it, promote it and encourage it.

We go the extra mile

We’re prepared to go the extra mile to deliver for our customers. We challenge ourselves to think differently: we listen to others, we learn, and we’re open to change and new ideas.

Strategic Plan for 2024-2030

As a registered charity regulated by both the Care Quality Commission and the Regulator of Social Housing, we reinvest in our residents, homes and people. Our 2024–2030 strategy was shaped directly with residents, relatives and colleagues. It focuses on four priorities: excellent customer service, homes that are fit for the future, care and support tailored to each person, and a workplace where colleagues can thrive. As we mark our 85th year, we are entering an exciting new chapter, building on a proud legacy while we shape the future of later living in the South West.
